The Mathematics Research Institute of the University of Extremadura (IMUEx) is a center dedicated to excellence in mathematical research, training, and knowledge transfer. Established to foster collaboration between researchers in Extremadura and the international scientific community, IMUEx integrates multiple research groups to address complex challenges in pure and applied mathematics.

PERSONAL POSITIONS AT THE INSTITUTE

DIRECTOR

Ricardo García González, Department of Mathematics. Elected by the Institute Council and appointed by the Rector. He leads the strategic scientific direction of the Institute and chairs the Institute Council and the Standing Committee.

SECRETARY

Pedro Martín Jiménez, Department of Mathematics. Proposed by the Director and appointed by the Rector. He is responsible for the Institute’s administrative certification, record-keeping, and coordination of official processes.

VICE DIRECTOR

Javier Cabello Sánchez, Department of Mathematics. Proposed by the Director to assist in the management and institutional representation of the Institute.

COORDINATION COMMITTEE

The following committee was officially approved during the Institute Council session held on December 17, 2025. The IMUEx Coordination Committee is composed of representatives from the different research groups, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to the Institute’s scientific strategy:

  • José Enrique Chacón Durán (Research Group: Mathematical Statistics (FQM023).

  • José Manuel Fernández Barroso & Raúl Martínez Bohórquez (Research Group: GADAC – Algebra, Differential Geometry and Applications (FQM024).)

  • Juan Luis García Zapata (Research Group: CénitS – Computational Support & Supercomputing (TIC019).)

  • Mario Martínez Pizarro (Research Group: Bayesian Decision and Inference (FQM018).)

  • Daniel Morales González (Research Group: BANEXT – Banach Spaces and Operators (FQM015).)

STANDING COMMITTEE (Comisión Permanente)

The Standing Committee is the executive body responsible for the day-to-day management of the Institute. As established in the Internal Regulations and approved by the Institute Council, it is composed of:

  • The Director: Ricardo García González.

  • The Secretary: Pedro Martín Jiménez.

  • The Vice Director: Javier Cabello Sánchez.

  • Appointed Member: Carmen Calvo Jurado (Approved by the Institute Council).

EXTERNAL SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Following international standards of excellence, the IMUEx is advised by a committee of prestigious researchers and institutional representatives. This committee ensures the highest standards of academic quality and strategic impact:

  • Manuel de León, ICMAT (Institute of Mathematical Sciences).

STATUTES AND REGULATIONS

The structure and functions of these positions are governed by the internal rules of the University of Extremadura.
